If you have read our blog for awhile, you know that I have a love of vintage pull down school maps. Ive even made a few myself since they are usually way out of our price range. Imagine my surprise when my hubby came home with 6 of them a couple of weeks ago that he picked up at a garage sale in the rain. Talk about luck. We kept 3 and the other 3 are going up for sale in our shop. They are all absolutely gorgeous and date from the 1940s to 1960. And their condition is amazing. So are their colors. One of the maps is exactly the color scheme that we have in our master bedroom/home office.

So, of course, thats where I put it. I dont usually include this little home office corner of our master bedroom in photos because, well, Ive never been very happy with it. I mean, who wants a computer, printer and all that mess in the bedroom. Not me. Id love to have a separate room for our office but this is what we have and we just try to make it work. But I am loving the map in this space. Its the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning which makes me happy.
These photos arent the best because I had to take them at night. We are working day and night practically to have our shop ready for its grand opening this Saturday, October 13. Wow, I cant believe that its almost here. :)
We are trying to make our Grand Opening Celebration really special. I showed you this table in my dining room fall decor post that I put together using bowling alley floor remnants and plumbing pipe. We will be giving it away during a drawing in the store Saturday.
We will also have snacks and beverages for those that wander in. This will be a very special day for us and we want our customers to feel special, as well.
I will be sharing photos of the store later in the week. We arent quite finished setting everything up so stay tuned. And I really hope some of you will make the trip and stop in and say hi!
Have a wonderful day....

Hey there! I know a lot of you have been wondering whats up with our shop, as Ive received tons of emails asking what the heck was going on. To be honest, we didnt know either. We became unhappy with the little white house we were planning to use to open our new shop. There wasnt enough space and because the layout wasnt right inside at all, it was just going to require too much work. Those things just kinda derailed our motivation and we almost gave up.
Well, that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. While we were stalling, trying to figure out what to do or even if we should just give up, an AMAZING old building on our historical main street became available. Its right smack in the middle of our quaint little town, along with some other wonderful shops and has fantastic architectural features. It is truly gorgeous. There is so much history behind these buildings. Best thing is that it is move in ready,
except for a coat of paint and some cleaning.
We have a couple of months to get it ready and we cant wait!!
Our new shop will be called Vintage Accents. It will have a mix of everything vintage, plenty of architectural salvage and all those wonderful things my hubby finds on his picking trips and storage auctions, plus lots more. Were working on a little video to give you a better idea of what it is and the wonderful location, so, stay tuned for that! I cant wait to show you all and I really hope that when we get it open, you will come see us!

Country Living
This is really a dream come true for both of us so its also a little scary terrifying because you just never know how these things will turn out but we sure are going to give it our all and have fun while were doing it.
Watch for the video coming soon!

Several months ago, a sweet little cat showed up on our doorstep and we were all completely smitten with her. I blogged about her here. But after about a month, she just disappeared. We looked for her and posted flyers with the help of our neighbors but we never could find her, which left us all sad. But I realized that for the short while that she was with us, we realized that we were ready for a pet.
My older boys have ALWAYS wanted a dog from the time they were small. Especially our oldest. But with kids with allergies and asthma, having pets has been something we couldnt do for most of their childhood. However, as theyve grown older, they have outgrown their pet dander allergies and Ive been thinking that maybe it was time. I grew up with a dog that I adored and I wanted them to have that same experience.
Occasionally, I would look through our local animal shelter for just the right dog, but the dog they had in mind was never there....until this past week.
Meet
Andy....
We rescued him from our local animal shelter and it couldnt have been better timing.
Im one of those types of people that tries to find a meaning and purpose behind everything. Sometimes thats a good thing, sometimes its not. Most of the time, I choose to believe its a positive thing.
When our oldest was only 3 years old (hes 20 now), his very favorite movie was Toy Story. He absolutely loved Woody and Buzz. We took him to the see the movie in the theater and he was so thrilled. A big smile planted on his sweet face through the entire movie. Then for Christmas that year, "Santa" brought him the Woody and Buzz Lightyear characters from the movie. He loved them so.
But his favorite part?The "
Andy" that was written on the bottom of Woodys boots. He thought it was the coolest thing ever.
After all these years, we still have his Woody and Buzz Lightyear toys.
Its funny, at 3 and 4 years old, he went around writing "Andy" on several of his other toys, instead of his own name. Its a funny, special memory that my hubby and I love to remember.
So, when I was looking at all the sweet animals at the animal shelter and came across a beautiful dog named "Andy", who was also the breed our son had always wanted, I just couldnt say no.
So, in a spur of the moment decision, we adopted him.
It was something
our son needed and knowing how happy it made him,
made me happy, too. :)
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving with your families!!

In May we are expecting 7 baby chicks and we are thrilled! Theres nothing like the taste of eggs fresh from your backyard. Ive spent the last month planning, designing and building a chicken coop for them to call home.
Ive never built something of this size before but wanted to give it a try. I honestly designed as I went along, no plan, nothing. Well, I kinda had a plan but it kept getting tossed cause it wasnt working. And it was going to be painted white but then I received the Williams-Sonoma Agrarian catalog in the mail and I fell in love with cedar, which happened to be on sale at Lowes. So there ya go...
I was trying to keep it easy and cheap. And its not perfect but nothing I ever build is. It will do its job and thats what matters. The bricks were all found and I just did a random boring pattern because I dont have a brick cutter and didnt want to mess with it.
Im crazy about the barn door on the end.
Cant wait to collect eggs here with my youngest. :)
I really like red with cedar so I picked out this hibiscus plant to make it pop.
My hubby, who is still recovering from heart problems, bought me this beautiful peach tree and watching it come alive with blooms makes me smile.
I still have to add sand underneath the coop and finish up a couple of details and then its ready for the chicks.
Thats it for now!
Any of you raise chickens? Any advice or suggestions?
What have you been up to??

Hello! I hope you all had a great weekend!
We are finally making some progress on the new shop. Remember when I said we had a wonderful opportunity come our way involving a great old building right smack
in the heart of our quaint little town?
Well here it is!
(Ignore the ginormous pots of trees, they are getting picked up.)
This building is amazing. The area is amazing and we are honestly so thrilled.
We are making a huge life change to go for our dreams and it is so exciting and scary at the same time but I think thats what life is about, you know?
Taking a chance and going for what truly makes you happy.
We still have a lot to do,
even though the inside doesnt really need anything but painting and cleaning.
Heres a view from the inside.
Pretty cool, huh?
The ceiling is way up there and is decked out with the original tin tiles.
And Im crazy about the double stacked windows and wood trim.
I cant wait to polish that up.
Even the view out the window is amazing.
Love the brick with the vine creeping over it.
And the view down the sidewalk.
There are so many cool businesses and buildings in the historical area of our city and Im going to be sharing those with you over the next month or so as we count down to our grand opening.
Heres the view from the opposite direction to the left.
This is a great little place to eat, too.
And a perfect little junk store, right next door, where I bought the hutch I recently
added to our dining room.
I love that place and the owners are so friendly.
So when will the grand opening be?
Our goal is October 15 and not a day later.
Heres what Im thinking for the window......
(just for design purposes, not really on the windows)I really would like it to be symmetrical, however, the bar divide down the center of the window is making it difficult for me to figure out how to achieve this. Do we put it all on one side of the window? Or ignore the bar and put the whole thing in the center? Im just not sure but I do love it on the window and I love the font.Would love to hear your suggestions on placement!
We are so excited about this journey!
And cant thank you enough for your amazing support and encouragement
youve given us here in blogland!
We hope youll come see us!
