My Favorite Autumn Display and The Tobler Grounds and Garden Tour

For over 6 years now, my boys and I have been making a 45 minute commute each way to their school (I know, crazy).  And each year, we know fall has arrived and Halloween is coming when we drive pass this display of autumn perfection.
Standing amongst bails of hay, an assortment of colorful gourds, crows and chickens, is the scarecrow. A perfectly weathered and weary figure with a touch of creepy. Every morning with my sleepy kids in tow, he would great us and the boys would perk up.

Then just before Halloween would arrive, we would drive by to find the scarecrow surrounded by glowing sculls and boney hands reaching up from the ground. I always marveled at what a perfect way the scarecrow transitioned into halloween.

Now the other week, after all these years, I decide to ask the home owner if I could take some pictures of the scarecrow for my blog.  At least, I wanted to let the home owner know how much we have enjoyed him all these years and how much we appreciated the effort that must be put into erecting him year after year.
So, I left a note in the mailbox and was thrilled when I received a call from the home owner, Lynell Tobler. Lynell not only invited me to come take some pictures of the scarecrow, but also to visit and show me around her historic farmhouse.
When I met Lynell, she was beautiful, vibrant and guess what else? I found out she too writes a blog! It was one of those things that actually came as no surprise. Not only was Lynells home fascinating, but she was as well. She shared with me some of her own journey which included her transformation into fitness buff, her love of fashion and her devotion to animals to name a few. In addition, she had just returned from her sisters side after seeing her through brain surgery. Lynell shares these stories and more in her blog.
After spending time with Lynell and learning some of her homes history, I set off to take some pictures. In this post, I wanted to give you a tour of the outside and the grounds of the home. It was magical. The home retains so much of its original character and the rustic feel of the grounds suites its history.  And let me tell you, the inside of the home was just as charming as the outside...and Ill share that with you in another post.
Enjoy the tour
and please drop by Lynells blog at www.lynellsvintagelook.blogspot.com and say hi!
Happy Halloween!
Debbie

STEP INTO HER WORLD jens home tour

When you enter, you are greeted by a whimsical white cuckoo clock
(and yes it does cuckoo)
then your eye is drawn around the room to find a royal welcome mat.
This is a tour through the home of a good customer
and someone we now call friend.
Her living room clock is also amazing, it looks like a mercury glass mirror,
picking up all the wonderful colors reflectioned from the sofa.
Jen has come across some fabulous finds since setting up her home.
(these photos were taken 3 months after moving in)
The master bedroom is still being worked on but with a bed this glamorous to
climb into each night who really worries.
George has decided he wants a bed just like it, I want a patch work cow hide rug
She has fun accesories found in every room.
Theres George enjoying a chat while Im playing photographer.
For the bathroom, Jen ended up buying 2 different shabby chic ruffled shower curtains,
now that she has figured out which she likes better she is reselling this one below.
If anyone has been looking to get one and is interested in saving some money off the retail price,
let me know. Shes only asking $70.
Ill post another photo in the SHOWROOM with information.

MOTHERS DAY HOME TOUR joannes livingroom

For all you shabby chic loving moms out there
I have a wonderful room tour to share with you on your special day.
Recently George and I had the opportunity to meet Joanne
and were honoured to see inside her beautiful home.
And she was kind enough to let me have my way with the camera to share with you.
I took a LOT of photos so you may be lucky enough to see more rooms down the road,
but for now I am just going to spoil you with her livingroom.
And trust me when I say,
"THE WHOLE HOUSE LOOKS AMAZING"
Joannes has been thinking about painting the gold fire screen.
My opinion was either way looks wonderful but I thought we would get your input.
DO YOU THINK THE FIRE SCREEN SHOULD STAY GOLD OR GO WHITE?

MAGICAL TOUR the urban gypsy

Ill give some insight into the photos you are looking at shortly.
Yesterday was quite the day.
We had a deliver to make to North Van,
(those who dont know thats a good hour away from home)
then to pick up several pieces of my finished work on Kingsway to bring back home.
I did some pedaling of my wares on the street corner.
Okay it wasnt totally like that but we did have 2 customers pick up pieces
as we were loading the van.
And I want to thank those customers for saving us a bit of time, energy, and space.
But my favorite part of yesterday was dropping the Jack Dining Set off
at another store on our way back. (all these photos were taken there)
Jason, the stores proprietor and I have conversed via email for some time
and just before we left the house for the days adventures
He emailed asking if I wanted to bring the dining set in to display at his store.
Truth be told I didnt have to think on it too long,
the set was never going to get top billing in our small space,
and I welcomed the prospect of finally meeting Jason.
I didnt realize what I was getting myself into! (in a good way)
I was overwhelmed at how wonderfully welcoming he was to us
and complementary of my work.
After pulling me behind the counter to show me photos of a painting project he had done,
(in ASCP) he took us on the tour.
And what a tour it was!
Hes incredibly knowledgeable about his inventory,
all of which is beautiful solid wood furniture hand carved and imported from India and Asia.
The first time around I didnt even think to take my camera out, I had to go back around a second
time to do that. No skin off my back I was thoughly enjoying the view everywhere I looked.
Admittedly Im not a huge fan of Indian decor but the WOOD is so beautiful.
Jason also showed us a Tibetan Singing Bowl
(i think thats what it was called, hell correct me if Im wrong)
And it really does sing in a matter of speaking.
Unfortunately I did not get a photo of it because I was so memorized.
I think I might want one!
Needless to say the Union Jack Dining Set is available and on display at:
The Urban Gypsy
614 Columbia St
New West
604-520-7725
www.theurbangypsy.comThere are more detailed photos to look at on the URBAN GYPSY web site
but if you are in the area plz stop in to see Jason and everything he has to offer.
It really is magical!
Make sure to ask to see the singing bowls.
