HOW TO TAKE BORING TO BEAUTIFUL tall white sideboard

I get asked often where I get the appliques I use on my furniture projects.
There is no one answer other than everywhere.
This fabulous piece above was bought at a yard sale last summer.
It is a flat backed picture frame.
The hanger was unscrewed and the cardboard that was in it was removed,
then simply screwed to this door panel from the back side.
I customized this door panel for this vintage sideboard, it seems someone had an accident with
the glass that use to be there.
Minor repairs where needed from top to bottom on it but it is was a great find.
With my refined taste (wink) the interior of the full length drawer just wasnt going to pass muster.
Ink stains on plywood to the right and red felt sheading on the left, it was gross!
Never mind the large number of leftover sewing pins wedged in the corners,
that I did get attacked by.
I told George it was a rattle snake bite but he didnt buy it.
But when this is the finished result Ill let the snake bite fade away in my memory.
All the doors went from flat to fab with a bit of simple molding trim
and perfectly placed appliques.
The 2 side door appliques were found at a local RE-STORE.

The drawer and cupboard all got a pretty blue and white damask wallpaper lining.
This damask print can be found at Home Depot in BLACK, LIGHT BLUE, and LIGHT GREEN.
HEATHERs CABINET
The back was falling off so I decided to take it all the way off to line the interior.
Much easier this way.
More rogue sewing pins came out from every corner to play.
I was having none of it this time.

How to Organize Your Keyring

Sometimes it seems I just have too many BIG projects to complete! So, when I find something I can accomplish quickly and easily and that will bring some order and some "pretty" into my life, I am very happy. Not a home improvement idea, but I had to share this...
So, here is a look at my key ring, the way it was...not so pretty.
Plenty of keys that I have no clue what they are for and a ton of those annoying cards.
See, not pretty, not pretty at all.
But, wait..now take a look
How much better is this??  3 steps for this simple satisfaction..
  1. Download the FREE app Key Ring onto your smart phone!! This app lets you enter all your cards and then you can just scan from your phone. It slso lets you download deals for your cards. So, toss those messy tags and clean out your wallets.
  2. Pitch any keys that you are dumbfounded as to what they were ever for and how they even got on your ring.  If your worried you may realize what they are for and desperately need them (murphys law)  just put them aside.
  3. Get yourself a new keyring to show off your now organized personality. I love the Finderskeypurse. Visit http://finderskeypurse.com or amazon. Tons of styles and you can hook it onto the side of your bag. That means no more searching for your keys, because if your bag is like mine, it is a seemingly endless pit. My husband and sons are terrified of my purse! They dont understand my organized chaos and fixing that is another story.

HOW THE MAGIC HAPPENS blue black and white dresser

SO when the rain comes before expected sometimes my furniture doesnt get
photographed the way I would like.
Case in point this blue dresser.
On a lovely warm sunny day Ill pull something out of storage and start working in the yard.
Ill fix all the broken bits including drawer glides, and replace missing drawer guides.
Nailing a backer on, and glue a chipped drawer corner back in place.
At some point I decide what color Im going to start with,
this day it was blue for a piece Shelly had done over at A LITTLE BIT OF SHIZZLE
I wasnt trying to reproduce her work of art,
its just the piece that inspired the color choice of the day.
Ive added a link to see more of Shellys work at the bottom of this post.
Masking, spraying, distressing, and waxing all happens before installing new hardware.
A finish for the top gets underway.
Once finished but before I can move things around to style for photos,
the rain comes or even simple life happens.
So this is what happens .....
Photo editing!
It doesnt happen too often because I work hard at getting good photos,
but it is a necessary evil when you have bad lighting, bad weather, or limited time.

HOMESENSE HOW I ADORE THEE my new birdcage and painted mirror

Last visit to Homesense happened to be a quick
stop while we were on a peaceful drive to get away
from the hustle and bustle of life and work. As both
George and I work at home a great deal in the
evenings sometimes we just take off for a quiet
drive and enjoy an ice cappuchino from Tim Hortons.
Recently I had mentioned out loud wanting a bird
cage. I had really wanted one for a long time but
never mentioned it. With my retail job Ive been all
over the Fraser Valley as well as different locations
through out the country and really just never see them.
Well during this last stop at Homesense we meandered around
the store together close to closing time, George would pop
in and out of the isles showing me things he saw.
Then just as we rounding the final lap to the finish
line he popped into the isle again this time with a
 beautiful white birdcage in hand.
I gasped and immediately said
"I WANT IT!"
Then common sense took over and I asked
"HOW MUCH?"
Turned out to be $40, come on!
Well I still wanted it.
While this whole thought process was going on
George popped in with another bird house of a
different color and style. Now I was even more
excited at options. Be careful what you wish for.
Before the whole thing was done we musta found
close to a dozen different styles, sizes and colors.
And different prices.
Including this pretty pretty turquoise one and it was only $15*** SOLD ***
Another find that evening was this great
*FLYING THE WORLD*
mini suitcase.
We also got our large oval clock that youve seen in the past
and a few book boxes at Homesense.
Before I go I want to share with you some encouragement I received from
AMY from MAISON DECOR
She painted her beautiful mirror frame pink and
encouraged me when I told her I didnt quite have
 the nerve to do mine.
Well I was finally able to find a bit of time Mothers
day morning and went for it. Happy Mothers day to me.
Mines blue, its bold, its finished, and its brilliant.
Did you notice it also matches the bird cage?
Muahahahahah!
A tutorial of this mirror can be found here.
