THE BEFORE window dresser

I recently replaced 3 large ugly drawers in the middle of an old dresser
with a vintage window turned door and cupboard space behind.
Here are the much anticipated BEFORE shots.
The first time my daughter saw this dresser she remarked on the ugliness of the middle drawers.
Not to worry they will get used in the future but out they go for now.
This is my sliding compound mitre saw, a tool I use just about every day,
and definitely an asset for this project.
The interior of the cupboard was lined with the wood from the 4 drawers.
A = drawer back
B = drawer bottom
C = drawer sides
There is a great deal of framing going on behind that beautiful wood interior.
Again most of it was the original framing for the drawers just re purposed.
Its like it was meant to be this way always!

You can find all the beauty shots here,
and if you would like to see more BEFORE and AFTER shots

Feelin some Blue

Love me some blue and gold! First, lets take a gander at this chunky monkey from the
70s. Ive seen some of these done in bright bold lacquer colors. I love. Too bad we cant
do lacquer here in Cali. I used a semi-gloss enamel in this beautiful blue.
Primer was a biggie on this one since it was that laminate-y type of finish. In retrospect, anytime
you do a dark color, make sure you tint your primer. Any little divot and the white will show through. Even a dark gray would have been better than this white. I used my Command Max HVLP sprayer, for the first time in years, to spray the blue. I did a few coats, put it on the top shelf where it promptly fell 6 ft and shattered. Yep. Tried to fix it but it would not spray properly. Ive been reading review for hours to  find a replacement.
And just because I didnt already do enough work, I decided on a little graphics to jazz it up.
Was going to try a Greek Key pattern, but I figured this was hard enough.
Again, in retrospect, paint the base color first then you dont have to worry about taping twice!
I didnt decide I wanted to do the pattern until after I had painted it blue. So, taped it off like you see, sealed the tape edges with the blue, then painted the gold.  When that dried, I reversed it.
The photo below shows me sealing the tape edges with the gold. I did get very nice crisp lines.
This metallic paint is great. No complaints.
I have loved to bring it inside to stage it for some pics, but I honestly have no place to put it.
My next blue-ness is a night stand.
I had seen one from TheeVelvetGlove and just loved the colors.
She does some amazing and unique work.
Trying to distress with white underneath is a pain. I didnt want the white to show through.
I used some turquoise chalk paint underneath some of the darker blue chalk paint.  I also used gold gilding wax to highlight the distressed areas and spray metallic for the metal parts.
I think this is a cute little piece. I have the dresser that matches, but Im not about to go about the process on that baby! Way too much work.  I just like to try out different techniques that come across.
I realize this blue is not for everyone. But I love blues and greens!
And as a painter, I think its advantageous to explore other options and techniques, even though
it may not be exactly your style. Besides, its fun! I think its cool for an eclectic accent piece.
So, step outside the box once in awhile and do something different!

SHOWROOM TO BEDROOM room makeover

Come on in and get the 50 cent tour.
NEW Bedroom - AFTER
Guests are due to arrive soon and the temperary bedroom make-over is complete.
We hope Georges family enjoy it.
OLD Showroom - BEFORE
I took our front entry as well as where we usually show most of my furniture,
and transformed it into a pretty and comfortable guest bedroom.

This is a 136" x 69" room, thats just over 11 feet long by just under 6 feet wide.
Bedroom
$3 yard sale faux wood blinds I spray painted white and of course the vintage lamp I rewired for you.
Showroom
Georges granddaughter gets her own hooks to hang stuff and my beloved iron stool to sit on,
or climb on to reach all the neat things.
BEFORE seen above
AFTER seen below
The quilted green pillow shams are from our last Florida trip
and the king size yard sale quilt was only $15.
I built a custom sized bed because the room isnt big enough. We chose to used the Queen size
BYOB mattress (camping air mattress) because it would be flexible with the fit.
I built a raised platform underneath so the girls have tonnes of room to hide their luggage.
There is also extra foam and padding between the wood platform and the air mattress.
I hope they have some great nights of sleep, cause George plans to run them ragged.
Me thinks he forgets hes dealing with a 4 year old.

Annie Sloan French Linen

Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen. It is absolutely my color of the moment. I have always loved neutrals and this is a neutral that will mix with any other colors you have going on without being the same old white or black. It is a grey that is soothing and warm and suddenly, I gotta paint everything in it!
annie sloan french linenI have posted here a dresser I painted in French Linen. It was first painted with primer and after distressing, the primer peeks through. I just love that look!
I dontated this dresser to the silent auction at my sons school, but I have another dresser I am starting that I am going to do in the same finish so I can offer it for sale through my Etsy shop. Look for it soon along with an upcoming post of how to do this finish:)

THE CHALLENGE TO WORK WITH ORANGE patio for patrick

With a bit of extra time on my hands these past few days I have
gotten started on the patio. A dear friend along with George have
both challenged me to work with orange this time around. Both of
them know I cant ignore an out right challenge ... buggers!!!
Its just a start so far as I have had a great deal of cleaning from the
show as well as finalizing the latest Best Buy NSO (new store
opening) floor plans to get out of the way.
Heres a night shot with some of Georges white lights.
This painting was found while yard sailng with my sister last month.
Im also working on this fun little table for the patio. When I bought
it is was covered in a hideous brown red paint, which has taken a
very long time to strip. It is still in its DURING stage. There is also
a small glimpse of my solid Amber Alabaster lamp base which
I hope to incorporate into the patio decor.
