I love this project.
I knew re-doing the dressing room I would probably need more storage however
living with a layout works best for me to see how things work and where improvements are needed.
George found these two dressers at an estate sale.
They had arborite laminate glued to the tops, I ripped that off.
But the glue had to be removed too.
Beautiful soft wood after I using the grinder.
I stripped every surface of both dressers.
The intention was to always keep the dressers together, either as a pair
of large bedside tables or used side by side as a great console.
I never thought to stack them till I needed something for our small space.
If youve ever took the tour of our home you will know we
have limited space so I had to go vertical with this storage.
The top drawer is kinda high to use effectively so Ill share how I fixed
that shortly.
I adored the rough wood look but also wanted a lighter feminine feel,
so I did a very light white wash. Watered down white paint with spray bottle in hand
to thin it even more as it was applied.
The cast iron drawer plaques I got from Colleen.
They were actually *KITCHEN* plaques that I turned around.
And I can write on them with chalk to label the contents of each drawer.
Some of you might know these knobs from an earlier project.
A little acetone removed all the felt marker and nail polish.
Now to that pesky top drawer thats too high.
See those hinges below just under the top drawer?
All the parts of the drawer where kept and used so some day
in the future if needed it can be turned back into a conventional drawer.
I left some of the original paint on the drawer edges to add to the rustic feel.
She may be big but shes beautiful!

The veneer on the rails were mostly gone or ready to simply peel off,
however there was a bit that still needed my extra special removal technique.
drum roll plz ....... WATER & a bit of patience
Most glue used in the past to adhere veneers to furniture are water soluble there fore will soften once
water has penetrated into it. All you need to do is let a damp cloth sit on the veneer for a period of
time then come along and start peeling it away.
No need for harsh heat, damaging chisels, or needless sanding.
Below you can see she is almost thru the sanding phase. (rear bed)
A few days of priming, sanding, and painting and shes complete.
Oh silly me did I forget something .....
The rose applique I used was bought at a second-hand store and stamped with
1974 Miller Studio Inc.
Its a wall hanging made of some kind of fiber glass material
that I had to sand flat on the back side to sit flush with the head board before nailing in place.

Recently I built and painted a large double leaf dining table
with parts from 2 different tables I had.
This solid 1.5" thick pine surface came from my sisters home.
Ive been doing my best to pull together some of my sisters decorating ideas and
Last month I did up a beautiful Regency table for her dining area.
So as a fair trade I got their old table to work with.
The pine oval wasnt just really substantial it also comes with 2 large leaves.
The apron however was 3" deep thin milled pine mounted in a rectangle with 4 straight corner legs.
The metal and wood pedestals and decorative apron came from another table we had.
That table top was made of MDF and had horrible water damage to the surface.
You cant see it in this photo but out it went!
The apron took time to retrofit to the new pine slab but it ended up working out nicely dont you think.
I layered the painting and distressing in white to show off her age and wood grain.
I think she is so cute when she is in her single round stage.
