LISAS NEW VANITY matched vanity mirror stool

This desk was first shown on my blog last February for the
COPY ME CHALLENGE, a fun contest put on by 2 well known bloggers.
You can see my entry for the COPY ME CHALLENGE here
It has been used as a desk until I found something that worked better.
I also had this perfect little stool for it.
Here you can see both the desk and stool used in our guest room.
You can find this guest room transformation here.
I had a stool and a desk but still needed a mirror!
This is where my mothers old dresser comes in.
Her dresser is going to end up getting painted like ...
this!
To read about my first Union Jack dresser go here
The mirror is a perfect fit to the desk and stool.
So desk, stool, and mirror now become a pretty vanity set
and the second project I used chalk paint on.
This time I brush painted it and again I enjoyed the process very much
and I only used a small amount of paint.
2 things I wanted to try were ...
to paint the hardware, which came out perfectly, the paint adheres so well.
and to see how it would remove if painted on a mirror.
The conclusion to the mirror is ...
It cleans up very simply with water and a cloth.
Shes the perfect set! So remember to look for similar styles in your thrifty finds and
maybe just maybe you can pair them up to create something like this.

THE BEACH seaside tv console

The strangest, most unrelated things can start my projects.
Last week I was trying to bring together several pieces of wood I had stashed
for a simple wall shelf.
Somehow that process started me down the sandy beach path
to making a functional and versatile TV console ...
with style.
We have the beach on our minds because our yearly vacation is fast approaching.
So to get a cool relaxing feeling of a seaside cottage piece
I painted the entire unit Old White over Provence Blue,
enabling me to distress the white and have the blue peeking through.
The interior of the upper cabinet has been painted with a gentle mix of Provence and Old White.
Two different pieces of furniture were brought together to make this one unit,
but they still separate for ease of moving and transport.
Ill explain and show you lots of the before and the building process in the coming days.
What makes this piece so versatile is the ability to easily remove and store the shelves.
You can take out 1 or both shelves to fit a TV depending on the size of your entertainment needs.
And the shelves store neatly on the top of the unit hidden behind the crown molding.
OR ...
You can use it just as is
to show off a great beach collection of decor, a fabulous set of white stoneware dishes,
whatever you love so much.
Here you can find some more details about the graphics I used on these doors.
Here you can find the demolition and rebuild of the upper hutch.

Another Gem Colored Milk Paint Dresser!

I just cant get enough of the stunning colors from the Real Milk Paint Co. !
Last dresser re-do it was a bold cobalt/ultra-marine blue.  This time Im going
TURQUOISE.
But first, let me tell you about this score on this dresser.
Not too bad.  It was obviously a well made piece. Nice type of mahogany. It was in pretty good shape.
The gentleman I bought it from (CL) was one of those storage war people.  Although, he
said he got this from his uncle who had passed.  He wanted 85 for it. We agreed on $60.
Had no idea what a score I was about to discover.
I have never seen handles like this before. I took a quick glance at them and thought
they were unique. Even the escutcheons were beautiful. Of course he didnt have the key.
Does anyone ever have the key????
Anyway, got the beauty home and started my work. The handles were nice and hefty. Got out the
Brasso and started to see how they would shine up.
Hello!!!! Holy-Solid-Cast-Brass Batman!
Yes. Solid. No plating. I know you know how much solid brass handles cost.
10 handles and 5 escutcheons.  You do the math.....uh-huh......Scoresville!
Heres hubs shining the booty up on the polisher.
Want to see what they look like on the finished piece??
Like gold jewelry on a gorgeous gown....check out my Turquoise Baby!!!
I just love this color! I had planned on selling this one. But after seeing how great this color turned
out, and of course this awesome hardware, I think Im keeping this guy.
So I actually used the one marked cobalt blue. However, the rep said that they had an error listing the names, as I told him this color was no where near cobalt. So I really dont know what color this is. The one labeled turquoise is more of a teal. The company was nice enough and sent me two other colors (Peacock and Black) and a jar of their burnishing paste.  Its a matte acrylic topcoat. Sort of like using wax on top of chalk paint.
This totally looks like Bo-bo the clowns dresser.
After layering on the milk paint.
Once I start sanding, the other colors
will peek thru.
It was a paint-fest!!   I have serious issues.  While doing the dresser, I also tried out my milk paint on the new campaign dresser I picked up. Yes..a Baker Campaign dresser. For the paltry sum of $15.00!!! Dont Hate!    I will talk about that painting fiasco in my next post.....Sheesh....
To bring out the depth in the color, I used a dark wax over all of the paint.
I hate waxing. It took quite awhile and I couldnt move the next morning.
For the wood top. I sanded and used a mixture of stains.
All the wood got coated with Tung Oil that I got from Real Milk Paint Co.
You can read about the oil on my last post on the bold blue dresser.
And here is a pic of it inside my living room.
I just kind of threw it in there,,,,havent really had a chance to decorate around it.
I think its time to repaint the room. Im so not looking forward to that.
Its not a bad color, im just tired of it.
One last look at the pretty jewelry!!

This shows how I layered on two other colors of chalk paint before painting over the whole
thing with the milk paint.  Milk paint works best on completely bare wood. It went over the chalk paint with no problems.
